What will your daughter's story be?
Why Choose RMS?
Families choose RMS over other girls' schools in Hertfordshire for many reasons; fundamentally they know that their daughter will achieve her very best here, that she will develop confidence, and most importantly, that she will be happy at school. We cater effectively for very different children, from girls who thrive on academic study to those who love sport; from confident dancers and actresses to gifted painters and designers. Our curriculum is exceptionally broad and our ethos is exceptionally inclusive. We are not results-driven but aim to add value to the achievements of all and we genuinely value each girl for herself and her own unique qualities. RMS has always been known for superb pastoral care – this is central to our ethos – but we now very effectively enable girls to achieve highly within a supportive and nurturing environment. Girls develop inner confidence and self-belief; they feel good about themselves and consequently go on to surpass expectations. The flexibility of our boarding provision enhances school life and adds an extra dimension of care for modern families with busy lives.
History of RMS
RMS has an unusual and distinguished history. One of the oldest girls’ schools in the country, RMS was founded in 1788 by Chevalier Ruspini to educate the daughters of Freemasons unable through death, illness or disability to support their families. The School started out with fifteen pupils and a matron in Somers Place in East London and moved twice within London and finally to Rickmansworth in 1934. In 1978 RMS became an open, fee-paying school accepting girls from all backgrounds and all faiths, the vast majority of whom have no links with Freemasonry.
Aims / Mission Statement
RMS strives to enable each and every pupil, regardless of background, to develop to the full their academic, personal and creative potential. RMS offers a nurturing, inclusive and supportive environment where each child is esteemed as an individual, capable of success.
